The Downers Grove North indoor boys track team’s 800-meter relay of juniors Tariun Triplett and Andrew Marszewski, senior Anthony Giordano and junior Zharion Jackson were a surprising champion at the 13th annual Downers Grove South Mustang Relays Monday, March 7, at North Central College in Naperville.
The Trojans ran 1:32.06 fully automatic time to take first in the fourth of sixth heats -- and the time held up by .11 over the next two faster-seeded heats and among 32 finishers in all.
Downers North won over second-place Minooka (1:32.17) and Plainfield East (1:32.23) from the fastest heat and fourth-place Neuqua Valley (1:32.24), second to the Trojans in the fourth heat.
Triplett (22.3) and Jackson (22.9) had sub 23-seconds splits. Marszewski (23.1) and Giordano (23.4) were sub-23.5.
The 3,200 relay of senior Robby Prescott, sophomore Brendan Lockerby, junior Robert Falconer and sophomore Ryan Birkmeier was fifth (8:07.72) of 36 teams.  All four members of the 3,200 relay had personal-best splits – Prescott (1:59.3), Lockerby (2:01.4), Falconer (2:02.5) and Birkmeier (2:04.6).
The 1,600 relay of sophomore Michael Taylor (52.8), Lockerby (53.6), Marszewski (52.2) and junior Joe Keys (52.9) was eighth (3:31.58) of 35 finishers.
All three relays ran season-best times.
