Ben Silver Passing and Service Info

Monday, July 6 2015 - Ben Silver

It is with a heavy heart that we have to share the news of that former North High School great, Ben Silver, has passed away.  Ben was a true champion and incredible teammate who helped propel Downers Grove North Cross Country and Track to new heights.  He was a significant contributor to the culture of not only this program but to North High School as a whole.

There will be a memorial held on July 12th at the American Legion Hall (4000 Saratoga Ave) in Downers Grove.  It will begin with a Buddhist ceremony at 10am and a Celebration of Ben's Life at 1pm.  Everyone is welcome at both.  There will be a chance for people to share stories and say a few words to remember and celebrate Ben.  Also, please write down your story so it can be shared with the family in a memory book.

Ben was truly an all-time great = 3 time all-stater in cross country with finishes of 17th, 18th, and 10th. At the time of his 10th place finish his senior year, it was the fastest time any DGN runner has ever covered the 3 miles at the State Meet.  Ben was also an all-state Track runner , he finished in 9th place his senior year in the 3200m from the slow heat, which was one of the most impressive things that this coach has ever witnessed.

Below are some pictures of Ben from his days competing for DGN:
