DGN, York at Oak Park-River Forest

Wednesday, September 2 2015 - Downers Grove North v York v Oak Park-River Forest

The Downers Grove North boys cross country team began West Suburban Conference Silver Division dual action Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Schiller Woods.
The varsity lost to York 17-44 and host Oak Park-River Forest 23-38.
The sophomores defeated OPRF 16-46 and lost to York 22-33.
The freshmen defeated OPRF 20-36 and lost to York 22-36.
It should be noted that this is the first year in which dual results do not count toward the final overall Silver standings. Only the results at the Silver Meet Oct. 17 at Camera Park in Glendale Heights will determine the final standings. In past years, overall standings were based on teams receiving one point for each regular-season dual victory and one point for each team they beat at the Silver Meet.
For the varsity, junior Alec Danner (16:29.11 for 3.0 miles) and senior Robby Prescott (16:30.02) were sixth and seventh among in their three-team race.
Junior Andrew Marek (18th, 17:57.06) and senior Nick Torres (20th, 17:57.06) also broke 18:00. Senior Rocco Manzo (23rd, 18:09.69), junior Zach Goliszewski (24th, 18:17.34) and junior Donny Knapp (31st, 18:33.92) rounded out the team’s top-seven finisher.
York finished sixth at the 2014 Class 3A state meet. York sophomore Charlie Kern (16:11.33), an all-state eighth in 2014, edged OPRF senior Kimathi Johnson (16:13.03) for first place Tuesday. Johnson was part of the Huskies’ all-state 1,600-meter relay at the 2015 state track meet and 3,200 relay, which was 11th in the state finals.
Strong packs led the Trojans in the other two races.
