St. Charles East Invite Wrap-up

Saturday, September 1st, 2012

The Leveay Invite has been on our schedule for a long time for good reason.  The course is great and the team competition is very solid.  This course is a true cross country course with hills and great running through the forest.

The Varsity Boys kicked off the race day with some very solid efforts, with some big improvements over last year.  This was the first varsity race for 4 of the 7 runners today and we are extremely excited about our varsity line-up this year.  The best part about all of the 7 runners the the fact that all seven had greatly imporved their times on this course by at least 50 seconds but in most cases by over 2 minutes from last year (see below)!   Ben Eaton ’12 finished third with a very solid and steady race and shows he has what it takes to be discussed with other All-State hopefuls.                                                                                               1-5 Split: 1:16, 1-7 Split: 1:21

The Fresh/Soph Boys were next up and the boys did an excellent job competing against a very deep F/S field.  The top F/S performer was Joe Carter ’14, he competed in the top twenty throughout the race and managed to close strongly in the final 800 to solidify his 11th place finish.  This race welcomed Connor Daugherty ’15, Ryan Cantlin ’15, Ari Scot ’15, Martin Whitmore ’14, Joe Pitelka ’14, Brian Proctor ’14, Josh Naponiello ’14 to the ranks of DGN Cross Country!  We look forward to many efforts that represent the Cause well!  Also, check out some of the improvements by our returning sophomores!                                      1-5 Split: 2:18, 1-7 Split: 3:04

The Open Race group does represent the depth of our team at the J/V level.  Our top performer Jamie Kennedy ’12 dropped over 2 minutes from his time last year!  It just goes to show how the miles can pay off when you are willing to put them in.  The best part is that we can say that about a lot of our runners and especially a number of guys in this race.                                                                                                                      1-5 Split: 59, 1-7 Split: 1:52

Next Meet: Lake Park Invite
